Andis Wines was established in 2010 as a forward-thinking winery built with a green design. Our building is modern in look with a focus on sustainability and respect for the environment. We source fruit from our Estate as well as some of the best vineyards in the region to produce exceptional wines of character and varietal correctness.

Winemaker Notes: A heritage blend of traditional Amador grapes, the 2018 Painted Fields puts the distinct regionality, a prerequisite for any world-class wine—of the Sierra Foothills on full display. The mouthwatering acidity and freshness derived from high-elevation plantings lend a high-toned edge to the deep concentration and mountainous complexity that come from abundant sunshine and rocky, granitic soils.

Philippe Melka (Consulting Winemaker): Like the celebrated wines on which he’s built his reputation, Philippe Melka’s career has been influenced by the soil. A native of Bordeaux, Melka grew up intrigued by the intricacies of the land around him. When it came time for college, he acted on his childhood interests, earning a degree in Geology at the University of Bordeaux. A class in winemaking in his final year was a turning point, propelling him to earn a Master’s degree in Agronomy and Enology.

Maayan Koschitzky (Director of Winemaking): Maayan has amassed an impressive winemaking resume spanning from the vineyards of Israel to Screaming Eagle and Dalla Valle here in the Napa Valley, working alongside some of the top winemakers and among the most coveted terroirs in the world. In 2014 Maayan Joined Atelier Melka. He brings a dynamic array of talents to the Melka team. With a background in Engineering and years of experience in both wineries and vineyards, Maayan plays a multifaceted role at Atelier Melka involved not only in winemaking and operations but design and implementation of winery development for clients.

Mark Fowler (Estate Winemaker): Mark works closely with the Atelier Melka winemaking team of Philippe Melka and Maayan Koschitzky, overseeing the day-to-day winemaking operations under their direction. He is also actively involved in the management of Andis’ estate vineyard, as well as working with growers and the Melka team to source the best fruit. Fowler has held winemaking and viticulture positions in Amador and El Dorado counties for the past 15 years. He joins Andis from his most recent role as Associate Winemaker and Viticulturist at Skinner Vineyards. He has also worked at Domain De La Terre Rouge, Cielo Estate, and Shakeridge Ranch.

The Tasting Panel

Tart cherry and sweet earth combine for a pleasure ride. Meaty mouthfeel, with white pepper, rosemary, and rhubarb alongside a defined acidity. Cinnamon and wild strawberry are precise. Balanced and hearty.

This big but smooth wine offers nicely concentrated black-fruit flavors and oak accents of cedar, vanilla and cinnamon.
