Stags’ Leap doesn't need an explanation, it’s probably the most beautiful part of Napa Valley; perfect exposure and soils and with a breathtaking, towering skyline that’s craggy and indomitable … Actaeon, the name of our Stags’ Leap wine, was a hunter who stumbled upon Artemis (Diana) and her nymphs bathing. To punish him she turned him into a stag. A perfect example of mountain soils on the valley floor, the climate of Stags’ Leap has the greatest diurnal difference in temperature, sometimes as much as 50 degrees. This allows the wine to maintain acidity which gives it youth and brightness.

100% Cabernet Sauvignon, Stags’ Leap. A wine of elegance and grace that hides an unsuspected power. Black licorice, blackberries, roast meats, tar, leather, violet, blueberry, rich attack with cushions of black cherry, blackberries violets, toffee and licorice beautifully balanced with nutmeg, toffee and blackberry pie in the finish.

Wine Advocate 92 Points: Composed of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Actaeon Quixote Vineyard displays a deep garnet-purple color. It features notes of baked black and red cherries, blackcurrant preserves, sautéed herbs and tobacco leaf with touches of fallen leaves and charcoal. Medium to full-bodied, it has a firm, grainy texture and loads of freshness supporting the abundant black fruit layers, finishing with an herbal lift. 147 cases were made.

The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Actaeon is relatively approachable for this site, where the wines tend to be a bit richer and darker. Cedar, tobacco, licorice and mint add pretty aromatic top notes to the reddish fruit. There is a lovely softness to the 2017 today, but beneath that the tannins are just a bit gritty, which will become more evident over time. The 2017 is Aaron Pott's final Cabernet from the Quixote vineyard.
