Glenville Moon Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon 2020
The Mayacamas mountain range-which divides Sonoma County from Napa Valley. California's top heritage clone vines have their roots in this vineyard, prized for the volcanic influence and mineral content of its iron-rich, loamy soil. Officially recognized in 1981, the Moon Mountain AVA (American Viticultural Area) is a sub-appellation of the broader Sonoma Valley AVA in Sonoma County California. With 1500 acres under vine, the area ranges from 400 feet in elevation to over 200 feet. Thin, volcanic soils, which impart a certain terroir rest on ancient lava flows. Winds from both San Pablo Bay to the south and the Pacific Ocean to the west provide the grapes with evening cooling. These all add up to wines of rich, distinctive character. Moon Mountain has been a source of cherished wine grapes since the 1860s.
Phenomenal concentration! A core of ripe black raspberries, wild blackberries, black currants, and freshly picked cherries anchor the aromatic profile. Bright notes of freshly picked wildflowers followed by hints of sunbaked rocks after the rain, Oolong tea, black cardamom, and milk chocolate add tremendous depth and complexity. The flavors follow suit and are richly layered, exquisitely balanced, and refined. This deliciously seamless wine offers ripe, mouthwatering tannins and a lengthy finish. Enjoy now and over its decades-long evolution.
