This bottling is made up nearly entirely from vines with 24-38 years in vine age, with a large amount being right at 32 years. We have discovered that at around 25 years of vine age we often see a change in the vines' nature as they become bigger and healthier plants with deep root systems. Once this happens the fruit and resulting wines shift from the darker fruit spectrum to a brighter, redder style. The wine gains length and a wonderful counterbalance of austerity to its rich texture. As well there is a sense of minerality intermingling with the long chain tannins that draw the wine out and provide exceptional length.

The wine's aromatics are this curious mix of blueberries, a minty herbal note and the rich orange note of a creamsicle. Modest acidity and fine-grained tannins, with flavors of black-and-blue berries, black tea and tangerine slices.

The fruit for the 2021 Pinot Noir Estate Vineyard was grown in erosion-prone soils (sandstone on top of shale), which means that it takes far longer for plants to establish themselves. From vines planted between 1998 and 2010, this 2021 is expressive on opening, with dusty earth, ripe raspberry, attractive spices, and a hint of blue flowers. Juicy and plush, it's medium to full-bodied with generous fruit that fills the palate and feels approachable and delicious now. Drink 2023-2030.
