Forefathers Cabernet Sauvignon comes from a 3-acre parcel located just north of Geyserville. This mountain vineyard faces east and avoids the undesirable, hot afternoon temperatures. East-facing slopes are relatively rare in the Alexander Valley, as most of the valley is either heavily forested or too steep to plant (county restrictions). Due to this site’s aspect, we have ample time to get to full flavor and tannin maturity without screaming alcohol. The glacial loam soil at Lone Tree has a little more water-holding capacity which helps avoid grape dehydration and elevated sugars. The combination of well-draining soil and soft morning sun promotes long hang times and wines of greater complexity. Lone Tree is cane pruned, a technique that produces smaller berries, less dense clusters, and a more open canopy. The benefit is even ripening. Black fruit, depth, and power are the signature of these much sought-after east-facing sites.

Notes of blackcurrants, blueberries, baking spices, and flowers. Hints of walnuts and wet earth, too. Medium-to full-bodied with firm tannins. Ripe and rich with hints of herbs. Firm finish with notes of crushed stones. Drinkable now, but it will be better after 2025.

After a subtle, spicy, dark-fruit aroma, this wine opens up on the palate to show excellent depth in blueberries, dark chocolate, and black cherries. A nicely firm texture of fine-grained tannins and a full body add great structure for continued improvement with age. Best from 2025–2035.
